Marine fish finders are high-tech gadgets that can help you locate fish through new age technology. Fish finders are actually fathometers, which operate via echo sounding and active sonar technology. Keep in mind that some marine fish finders are cheap for a reason. They may only offer location information so that you can keep track of your moving patterns and your coordinates. After all, some products are less than $100. However, other devices can be $1,000 or more, presumably because they actually offer a fathometer and GPS technology combined. Some models of marine fish finders may be complex to learn, while others remain relatively simple, perhaps just like an ordinary GPS car device.

You may notice that some models have LCD screens while others have CRT screens. Are there any advantages or disadvantages that come from one or the other? Unlike with television sets, LCD displays for fish finders are actually cheaper than CRT screens. In addition, LCDs are usually waterproof and less fragile overall. The main advantages of CRTs are that they can produce a clearer picture. However, they are also more easily prone to breaking and water damage.

Obviously budget is a concern when choosing your marine fish finders. Some would rather invest in other products, electronic and perishable, so that they can focus more on natural fishing than put too much into high-tech devices. You do have to walk a fine line here. After all, fishing finders do not help improve your technique; they merely prevent you from wasting too much time in one unproductive spot. You could look into black and white or grayscale screens if you are looking to save money.

Marine Ecology: Concepts and Applications $134.24 Marine Ecology is a popular subject area, with approx 60% of the schools teaching Marine Ecology (compare to only 56% teaching Marine biology). Yet despite this, teachers of marine ecology courses mainly have to rely on Marine Biology textbooks as there are no up-to-date textbooks available which focus on marine ecology.Courses are taught at the upper level (200 - 300) with class sizes of around 25-40. Marine biology is generally taught at a lower level and this is also reflected in the marine biology texts that marine ecology lecturers have to use.There are two main texts used on marine ecology courses. The first (used on 28% of the 25 courses reseached) is Nybakken: Marine Biology. It takes more of an ecological approach than other marine biology text, but is still focused on biology. This is a nice book, slightly higher level than other marine biology texts, in 4 colour with lots of supplements.The second is Bertness: Marine Community Ecology (used on 25% of the courses) - this does take an ecological approach but is too narrowly focused on community ecology. This is a higher level book, in black and white with no supplementary materials. Other courses use a wide variety of other less suitable texts or no text at all.Neither of these main competing titles quite hits the right spot. The niche is for a text focused on marine ecology and this is borne out by the reviewers who all feel there is definitely a need for a marine ecology focused text at this level.The market it potentially quite large. There is already a marine ecology text on the science list, Barnes and Hughes: Introduction to Marine Ecology 3e, but this is now past its sell by date. In its day it was an extremely goodselling textbook, the second edition sold nearly 12,000 copies. But the third edition became more idiosyncratic and was not revised well. It is now very out of date. Despite this, the third edition has sold reasonable numbers, around 4000 copies to date (since 1999).I have been looking for a book that would replace Barnes and Hughes and fill the marine ecology niche and although Martin Speight's proposal is not quite there yet, we are going to develop the contents list carefully to make sure that the book that is spot on.It takes a unique approach to the subject, focusing on concepts, processes and applications and moving away from the traditional habitats approach that is found in marine biology books.
