Gps Navigation Can Save You Time And Money
GPS navigation is a great way to save both time and money. Whether your time on the road is for business, pleasure or a little bit of both, when you utilize GPS navigation you can find the most direct route to your destination without needing a co-pilot to guide you or a map to plot your course.
Face it, gas prices are right back at the top of the charts and it costs a pretty penny to fill the tank. Combine that with the fact that you still need to get to where you're going and it becomes clear that you need a solution for your checkbook today. In fact, if you are like most people, your life is not even close to slowing down, but getting busier every week. You've got errands to run, family to tend to, business contacts to make and social obligations that are important to you. The problem is, these things cost you big time, both in gas dollars and in clock hours. You run from Point A to Point B, only to find that Point C is three miles from where you started, causing lost time and wasted miles. Using a GPS navigation system helps you cut back on both.
When you have a list of errands to run, why not plug your various stops into your GPS before you leave the house. You can plug in your starting point and your ultimate destination and then set up "via" points along the way and let your GPS set up your route in the most efficient manner or you can set your trip with all your destinations right from the beginning and then save it for when you need it. Look for a unit with multi-destination optimization to help you find the shortest routes between destinations to save time and money.
Admittedly, the technology used for multi-destination planning isn't an exact science yet. You may still fail to get the most economical, fastest trip every time, but this newest function is definitely a step in the right direction and it won't be long before it is perfected. The multi-destination feature is still fairly new, but the techno-wizards who create this stuff make amazingly fast improvements, so it won't be long before you can rely on your GPS navigation system to not only take you from start to finish, but also show you how to make multiple stops in between quickly and economically.

Celestial Navigation in the GPS Age $19.76 Many books on celestial navigation take shortcuts in explaining concepts; incorrect diagrams and discussion are often used for the sake of moving the student along quickly. This book tells the true story-and the whole story. It conveys celestial navigation concepts clearly and in the shortest possible time. It's tailored for navigation in the GPS age-a time of computers, calculators, and web resources. Although it covers all of the traditional methods of "working a sight," the primary thrust is using the (under $10) scientific calculator. By using equations that you key into your calculator, this book guides you toward a better understanding of the concepts of celestial navigation. You will learn novel ways to plot lines of position, ways to check your sextant accurately by star sights, and how to tell what time it is from a moon sight. The many appendices are a treasure of references and explanations of abstract ideas. Celestial Navigation is a crucial skill for the offshore navigator to know, this book provides the shortest path to that knowledge. |

Dutton's Nautical Navigation $51.94 As paper navigational charts are replaced by vector images on computer screens, magnetic compasses enhanced by digital flux gate technology, and chronometers joined by atomic clocks, the demand has been mounting for an extensive update to the classic reference known worldwide as Dutton's. To meet the varied needs of today's recreational, naval, and commercial navigators the Naval Institute introduces this new edition of a guide that has remained the seafarers choice for more than three-quarters of a century. It blends the traditional navigation techniques first compiled by Benjamin Dutton in 1926 with technological marvels of the twenty-first century to authoritatively cover all phases of surface navigation. For example, while the book acknowledges that many navigators still peer into the skies through sextant telescopes, it also helps them take full advantage of man-made Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites. Valued as both an indispensable quick reference and a comprehensive text, Dutton's makes accessible such foreboding subjects as spherical trigonometry through the use of step-by-step explanations and examples that encourage practical use. To insure accuracy and relevancy, a board of experts made up of naval and Coast Guard officers, merchant mariners, accredited harbor pilots, and sea-service academy professors, has carefully reviewed this fifteenth edition. The result is an unparalleled treatment of the art and science of nautical navigation that both amateur and veteran navigators will use to safely navigate the waters of the world. |

Overcoming Urban GPS Navigation Challenges $127.45 This dissertation seeks to overcome challenges in the urban environment to ground vehicle GPS receiver positioning performance through the integration of external sensor information. The effects of narrowband radio frequency interference and signal attenuation, both common in the urban environment, are examined with respect to receiver signal tracking processes. Lowcost MEMS inertial sensors, suitable for the consumer market, are the focus of receiver augmentation as they provide an independent measure of motion and are independent of vehicle systems. A method for estimating the mounting angles of an inertial sensor cluster utilizing typical urban driving maneuvers is developed and is able to provide angular measurements within two degrees of truth. The integration of GPS and MEMS inertial sensors is developed utilizing a full state navigation filter. Appropriate statistical methods are developed to evaluate the urban environment positioning improvement due to the addition of MEMS inertial sensors. Record and playback systems are evaluated as the optimal way of testing multiple navigation systems in the urban environment.
