When it comes to marine electronics for fishing, you have a wide array of choices. In addition, you can also get an iPhone software called FishHead that tracks weather, tides, and even lunar information! But for most people, fishing electronics usually brings to mind fish finders and GPS systems. They can be purchased separately, or in combo units saving mounting space and money.

When it comes to transducers on fishing electronics, there are single frequency transducers and dual frequency transducers. Single frequency transducers are used for lakes and shallow coastal fishing, while dual frequency is used for deeper water fishing. You can also get display screens on marine electronics with many different resolutions. Indeed, higher resolution, brings better image. Color screens can be better viewed in direct sunlight. Generally speaking, the more power your fishing electronics come with, the better the results, even in still or shallow water. Depth penetration is related to the power and quality of the transducer. Better transducers penetrate the water best. Saltwater and muddy water will limit the depth to which your fish finder will penetrate.

Eagle makes a line of inexpensive to mid-range fishing electronics that are boat mounted. Some of them have grayscale screens, and some are color. The color screens are easier to read in bright sunlight. Those fish finders start at as low as USD 100.

Humminbird is also a popular line for marine electronics. Though they, too make inexpensive fish finders, they also have some more gadgety models, too, such as a combination wristwatch / fish finder, and specialized fish finders for ice fishing.

Lowrance is considered one of the higher end providers of marine electronics, including fish finders. They include bigger screens and better resolution than the more basic brands, though they, too, have a couple of more affordable models, and one model that is specially designed for ice fishing.

Marine electronics for fishing include fish finders and other devices that combine multiple features. You can buy a fish finder for 100 dollars and you can pay several hundred, too. Your specific needs and budget will determine which type of equipment for fishing will best suit your needs.
